Skilled Criminal Defense Lawyer John W. Tumelty Earns NJ Certified Trial Attorney Designation

JohnTumeltyJohn W. Tumelty has been certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Criminal Trial Attorney and as a Municipal Court Law Attorney. Only a very small percentage of attorneys in New Jersey has received these distinctions.

According to the Board on Attorney Certification of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, attorneys who are included in the prestigious listing of NJ Certified Trial Attorneys “are able to demonstrate sufficient levels of education, knowledge, and skill in criminal trial practice.”

Further, only lawyers who apply for certification and meet the exceedingly high standards of the NJ Supreme Court are given this distinction.

Mr. Tumelty specialized in criminal defense law. However, to be named a certified attorney, a lawyer must be far more than simply active in the field of criminal law. To be certified by the NJ Supreme Court as a criminal trial attorney, a lawyer must have:demonstrated a substantial level of experience in criminal trial law

  • demonstrated a substantial level of experience in criminal trial law
  • been a member in good standing of the New Jersey bar for more than five years
  • fulfilled ongoing continuing legal education requirements
  • been favorably evaluated by other attorneys and judges familiar with his work
  • taken and passed a written examination in criminal trial law

The Criminal Trial Attorney Certification Program is an important resource for the general public to use when searching for a criminal lawyer with specific expertise. According to the Certification Board, “certification helps lawyers by giving them a way to make their experience known to the public and to other lawyers. Certification also encourages the maintenance and improvement of attorney competence in specialized fields of law.”

It is important to note that only Certified Criminal Trial Attorneys may utilize the designation “Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Criminal Trial Attorney” on their letterhead, on their business cards and in their advertising.
