Newark NJ Man Gets 30 Years in Prison for Armed Robberies in Atlantic City

South Jersey Criminal Defense LawyersA man who committed armed robberies of five different women in Atlantic City NJ will be spending a very long time behind bars after pleading guilty to robbery charges and being sentenced in Atlantic County Superior Court.

Rahime Adams, a 39-year-old male who lived in Newark NJ, committed all five robberies on the same night. On August 24, 2014, Adams reportedly tracked the victims from the popular Resorts Casino Hotel to their hotel rooms at The Knights Inn on Pacific Avenue in Atlantic City, New Jersey. After following each woman to her room at The Knights Inn, Adams reportedly waited until they tried to step outside; that’s when he would force his way into their room and rob them.

According to the victims, Adams was carrying a semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at the victims’ heads during the robberies. Adams ordered the women to hand over any cash they had and threatened to use his firearm to shoot them if they did not comply. Once Adams had the money, he ran out of the rooms. After committing the fifth armed robbery on the same night, Adams fled the area on foot. He ended up stealing a total of $700 from the five victims.

Adams was eventually arrested and charged with five counts of armed robbery. Each count carried a potential punishment of 20 years behind bars. Adams also faces various weapons charges, including illegal possession of a handgun and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Adams managed to avoid the maximum penalty in the case by reaching a plea deal with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. In exchange for Adams’ guilty plea, Atlantic County prosecutors agreed to drop the other charges and recommend that he be sentenced to 35 years behind bars.

Now Adams has been officially sentenced in the criminal case. He recently appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court, which is located in Mays Landing NJ. The superior court judge accepted the prosecution’s recommendations and sentenced Adams to a term of incarceration of 35 years in New Jersey State Prison.
