Police Arrest Two Men Accused of Violent Attack in Mullica NJ Driveway

South Jersey Criminal LawyersPolice recently arrested two people accused of violently attacking a man with a hatchet in the driveway of his home in Mullica, New Jersey.

The attack occurred around 7:00 a.m. outside a residence located on the 3700 block of Nesco Road in Mullica, NJ. The victim was standing outside in his driveway when two men allegedly approached him and began to strike him with multiple weapons. According to law enforcement, one of the suspects brandished a hatchet and the other suspect held a stick, with both suspects using the weapons to strike the victim.

The victim sustained significant injuries in the attack, including injuries to his head and arms.

Afterwards, the suspects reportedly ran away and disappeared in the woods near the victim’s house.

The victim’s wife reportedly saw the attack from inside the residence and made a frantic 911 call to alert the Mullica Township Police Department to the incident. Mullica NJ police officers and emergency medical responders soon arrived at the scene. The victim was rushed via ambulance to AtlantiCare Hospital, a nearby medical facility, where doctors treated him for his injuries and later listed him in stable condition. Thankfully, the victim is fully expected to survive the attack and recover from his wounds.

While the victim was being taken to the hospital, Mullica NJ cops canvassed the area surrounding the scene of the attack and searched for the suspects. Detectives spotted a suspicious car approximately one-half mile away from the residence and conducted surveillance on the vehicle. Meanwhile, K9 units from police departments in neighboring municipalities and an aviation unit with the New Jersey State Police offered assistance in the search for the suspects. Police eventually located the suspects hiding in the backyard of a local home and placed them under arrest without further incident.

At this time, investigators have not yet been able to determine what the suspects’ motive was for the assault. For instance, it has not been revealed whether something went wrong during the robbery and resulted in the victim being attacked.

The men who are now in police custody for the alleged crime face serious criminal charges, including aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, resisting arrest, and conspiracy.

The two suspects, a 42-year-old Dorchester NJ man and a 26-year-old Liesburg NJ man, could be subject to severe criminal penalties if they are ultimately convicted on the most serious charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. That’s because N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b), which governs aggravated assault charges in New Jersey, provides for enhanced penalties when a person commits a violent attack that results in serious bodily injuries or that involves the use of a deadly weapon such as a knife, a gun, or a blunt object.

While the criminal charges against the two suspects remain pending, the suspects are being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility on separate $50,000 bail amounts.
