You Can’t Buy This Toy In Atlantic City Ever Again

The Atlantic City Council approved a new ordinance last week that will bar AC stores from selling toy guns that look real. In a unanimous vote, the council deemed it illegal to sell, possess or use fake firearms.

In council’s discussion, they said police have reported fake guns being used in very real robbery attempts. All fake guns have a red tip on the barrel, which indicates that the gun is not real, but this feature can be easily removed, making it nearly impossible to tell the difference between a toy gun and a real firearm at first glance, especially from a distance.

There are exceptions to the new ordinance that allow for toy guns that are brightly colored, fluorescent or transparent – like commonly-seen water guns. Non-firing antique guns and prop guns (for films or theatrical use) are still allowed.

Under the ordinance, the penalty for having an illegal toy gun in Atlantic City will be a $50 fine and up to 30 days in jail.
