Retired Toms River Science Teacher Facing Serious Prescription Drug Charges

Most people have wondered to some degree about the private lives of their teachers. There’s a natural curiosity that causes students to ask what this model of education and professionalism goes home and does at night. Unfortunately, for 60-year-old retired Toms River Intermediate North teacher Joseph DeFelice, his private exploits are now public knowledge.

DeFelice is now at the center of drug bust that has rocked the township and school district of Toms River, which has been plagued with heroin and prescription-drug related deaths for years. At the time of his arrest, police found over 900 pills and $14,000 in cash.

DeFelice is now facing possession of Dilaudid, OxyContin and Xanax with intent to distribute as well as charges for possession of codeine, Percocet, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He is facing serious jail time if convicted. If you’re facing drug charges in New Jersey, it’s critical that you seek the services of a qualified lawyer immediately.

Depending upon what type of drug you were caught with, you could be facing up to 20 years in prison and will be required to serve at least one third of your sentence before you’re eligible for parole. You could also face up to $500,000 in fines.

New Jersey’s drug laws are complex and can be overwhelming. Don’t go it alone. Hire an experienced legal advocate to help you fight your drug charges and protect your freedom.
